Rationale
In Pakistan, where the population exceeds 180 million with more than 50% between ages 14–35, unfortunately only 60% of children attend primary school and less than 40% make it to secondary school. A large majority of the youth is not educated, becoming a burden on society and easy prey to drugs, criminal activities and terrorism.
Based on our experience and analysis, we believe the only solution is education, guidance and help to employment. Our team — doctors, youth career advisors, social workers, and legal consultants — all agree: an educated person can better care for their health, achieve career goals, find social solutions, and stand for their legal rights.
During interactive seminars and open discussion sessions with uneducated women in these villages, we concluded that a majority of them want to educate and develop themselves but cannot due to a vicious cycle of poverty, unemployment and financial problems.
Objectives
The purpose is to provide training and enhance professional skills of youth in the lower strata of society who lack the necessary skills or jobs to earn their living.
A multi-dimensional vocational institute is to be set up in Tarnol/Sanjani, Islamabad District, based on the philosophy of “self help” — where young men and women will be trained to help themselves stand on their own in family and society.
All beneficiaries will be offered free training in: professional tailoring, professional baking and cooking, plumber, carpenter and electrician courses, professional driving, and computer diplomas.
